THE WORLD BEFORE THE FLOOD – Giants, Fallen Angels and Noah's 120 Years
About this video
Rain starts hitting the roof of the ark. Inside, eight people sit in silence. Outside, an entire world is about to disappear underwater. And then something happens that no one inside the boat did: the ark's only door closes by itself. Scripture says it plainly — the Lord shut it from the outside. Hold onto that image. It is the key to the whole story you are about to hear.
In this episode we tell the complete story of the world before the Flood: the strange line in Genesis 6 about the sons of God and the daughters of men, and the three different readings serious scholars still debate today over who those sons of God actually were; the Nephilim, the giants born from that union; the hundred and twenty years God set as a deadline before judgment; the ark's exact measurements and the seven days between the animals boarding and the first drop of rain; the Epic of Gilgamesh, Tablet XI, recovered from the ruins of Ashurbanipal's library and deciphered in 1872 by the Assyriologist George Smith — a flood story nearly identical to Genesis, told centuries earlier by another people; the Sumerian King List, which also splits history into a before and an after of a great flood; and the three twists that close the episode: the Nephilim reappearing after the Flood, what really opened the floodgates of heaven, and the detail almost nobody mentions about the inside of a boat with no rudder.
This episode draws on Genesis 6-7, Numbers 13:33, 2 Peter 2:5 and Matthew 24:37-39, plus the Epic of Gilgamesh (Tablet XI, library of Ashurbanipal) and the Book of Enoch — an ancient Jewish text that is NOT canonical and not part of the Bible, but helps explain how first-century Jews read this story.
