NEBUCHADNEZZAR – The Most Powerful King in the World Who Spent Seven Years as an Animal

About this video

This is the most powerful king in the world, told from his own side: the pride he built brick by brick, the warnings he got not once but twice, and the fall he recorded himself in a letter sent to every nation on earth.

Daniel 4 is written by Nebuchadnezzar himself — it isn't a prophet describing a humbled king, it's the king admitting his own humiliation. In this episode we cover his forty-three year reign: the dream of the statue of metals and the exiled young man who decoded it; the all-gold statue raised on the plain of Dura as an answer to that dream; the furnace heated seven times hotter and the fourth man Scripture never names; the second dream, of the tree cut down; and the seven periods in which the most powerful man on earth lost his mind and lived among the animals, eating grass like an ox — a condition medicine still recognizes today as boanthropy. And we cover the twist from the Dead Sea Scrolls: the Prayer of Nabonidus, found near Qumran, which tells the same seven-year story about another king of Babylon.

This episode draws on Daniel 1-4, the Babylonian Chronicle, and the Prayer of Nabonidus (4Q242, Qumran).
